Yoga is learning how to Be

What is Yoga?

Many people often ask, what exactly is Yoga? Is it just a set of postural exercises? Is it related to Hinduism? And most importantly, is it right for me?

Yoga is derived from the root Sanskrit word ‘Yog’ which means to unite, to be one with. These days we are often rushing, often in a constant pursuit of material desires that our body, mind and soul are all off kilter – we can be eating a sandwich, driving a car and listening to the radio all at one time. Many work for most their lives, and yet feel directionless, purposeless. The more separated our body, mind and soul is, the more we are running towards ill health.

Yoga is learning how to just Be. When we are present in the moment, we are complete. We lack nothing and desire nothing. Automatically unification happens. Unification of our body, mind and soul; of our actions, thoughts and speech; of our work with our purpose.
